Uniqlo, a Japanese casual wear designer, manufacturer and retailer, has announced that it has successfully concluded its debut at the annual China International Import Expo (CIIE) held this year, from November 5-10, in Shanghai. CIEE is the world’s first import-themed national-level expo. The show features exhibitions of multiple countries and businesses.

Clothing labels need to be clearer when it comes to showing how a product is sustainable, as transparency continues to be a key driver of purchasing decisions, according to data analytics company GlobalData, whose figures suggest 37.3 per cent of UK consumers agree that retailers that place greater emphasis on sustainability are more appealing, and that retailers ought to capitalise on changing attitudes as the shift towards ethical retail gains more momentum.

US denim brand Levi’s is launching its resale platform, Secondhand, where customers can sell their old jeans back to the retailer. Resellers will receive between $15 and $25 in store credit for their old Levi’s jeans and quality, will determine the price. The resale platform will then relist the garments for between $30 and $100 for shoppers to purchase.

For too well-worn jeans to be resold, Levi’s says it will offer $5 and recycle those with its Sweden-based sustainable partner Renewcell, US media reported.

Singaporean online marketplace Shopee is planning to launch a premium shopping platform for consumers in Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. It will host top brands like Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and L’Occitane, and aims to help brands enhance customers’ online shopping experience by using its customer insight and brand tools.

Tempur Sealy, a leading bedding manufacturer, has announced plans to introduce surface-guard technology, an antimicrobial and antiviral technology expected to be included on select Sealy products beginning in early 2021. The company is pursuing antiviral-efficacy claims approval from the US Food & Drug Administration and Environmental Protection Agency.

The inherent self-sanitising properties means that the graphic remains germs and microbes resistant without the need to wipe clean.

The treated textile can be cleaned if graphics become dirty by gently washing at 60 degrees Celsius for up to 30 washes, without effecting the antimicrobial properties.
