The West Virginia University Davis College has opened a new textile laboratory to help fashion, dress and merchandising students gain better educational opportunities in textile science. The Amy A Bircher Textiles Laboratory has been set up with the donation of more than $200,000 by Amy Bircher, a WVU alumna and international leader in the textile industry.

H&M has joined hands with Zalora and has launched on the e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia, covering four markets namely Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Indonesia. The tie-up debuted in Indonesia in mid-March, April 1, 2021, in Malaysia, and on April 14, 2021 in Singapore. H&M is a Swedish multinational clothing-retail company.

Six women-led, emerging technology companies which offer market ready solutions for the industry, have been selected for the eighth cohort of the New York Fashion Tech Lab (NYFTLab), the leading programme for women promoting fashion and retail-tech advancement. These companies will participate in the Lab's first fully virtual/digital Lab experience.

The global technical textiles market is estimated at $193 billion in 2020 and is expected to reach $274 billion by 2027, growing at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.1 per cent during 2020-27, backed by increasing global demand for technical textiles across industry and an expanding base of new products based on application research, according to a new report.

The Yarn Expo Spring is set to host international, domestic, and hybrid exhibitors from the yarn and fibre industry, for three days of networking, sourcing, and business exchange, from March 17-19, 2021. The fair will welcome 387 exhibitors from six countries and regions, in hall 8.2 of the National Exhibition and Convention Centre in Shanghai, China.

Environmental NGO Redress has entered into a partnership with VF Corp and its Timberland brand, known worldwide for its sustainable design, for the Redress Design Award first prize. This is the third cycle of collaboration. The first prize winner of the Redress Design Award 2021 will join VF Corporation’s Timberland team to collaborate on a design project.

The award is organised by environmental NGO Redress with Create Hong Kong of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as the lead sponsor.

DBS Bank has collaborated with Inditex, a fashion retailer which owns brands such as Zara, Pull&Bear and Bershka, to launch an organic cotton procurement financing pilot programme in India with an aim to scale its organic cotton industry. While India is the largest producer of cotton, organic cotton comprises around 2 per cent of the total cotton produced.
