With the theme of Textile Structures for New Building, the Techtextil trade fair will once again be giving awards for young ideas on building with textile-based materials.
Be it lightweight structures, temporary buildings or creative interior design: students and young professionals in the fields of architecture, structural engineering, product design and similar professional areas can apply from now onwards for the competition organised by Techtextil, the leading international trade fair for technical textiles and nonwovens, which will take place from 14 to 17 May 2019.
The call is for ideas on building with fibre-based materials. Cash prizes totalling EUR 8,000 beckon. The competition is supported by the international network, TensiNet, as a sponsor, the University of Stuttgart’s Institute for Lightweight Structures and Conceptual Design (Institut für Leichtbau Entwerfen und Konstruieren - ILEK), and the platform for architecture and design, Architonic. The deadline for submissions is 24 February 2019.
Competition participants are free to choose any theme for their entries, which can be submitted in the following categories: macro-architecture, micro-architecture, material innovation, environment and ecology, as well as composites and hybrid structures. In addition, participants will be able to submit their entries in the context of Urban Living – City of the Future, which is the theme of the upcoming Techtextil special event.
Within the framework of the special event, the focus will be on textile-based solutions for architecture, clothing, living and health, in an increasingly urbanised society.
The official award ceremony for the winners will take place at Techtextil in Frankfurt. The prize-winning ideas will also be presented in a special show at the fair. Participation in the competition thus offers budding architects and planners a unique opportunity to present their ideas to an international trade audience and to forge contacts in the technical textiles sector.
