Ronak Rughani, chairman of Mumbai, said that the US-China trade war opened up an opportunity that would help the export of Indian man-made fiber textiles (MMF) to stagnate, increasing 5% to 7% of synthetic textiles and rayon in a year and a half. The Textile Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC) said at the unveiling ceremony of the 4th "Source India 2019" held in Mumbai yesterday.
According to Indian media reports, Textile Minister Smriti Irani said that India should now be a reliable source of quality MMF textile products.
The show attracted more than 100 leading Indian textile companies to showcase their latest textile collections, including fabrics, yarns, cosmetics, fibers, home textiles and technical textiles. 180 buyers and 20 international buyers from 40 countries are visiting the three-day exhibition.
Participating countries include Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Mexico, the United States, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, South Africa, Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, Egypt, Morocco, Turkey, Romania, Australia, Denmark, Russia and Sri Lanka. (DS)
