US denim brand Levi’s is launching its resale platform, Secondhand, where customers can sell their old jeans back to the retailer. Resellers will receive between $15 and $25 in store credit for their old Levi’s jeans and quality, will determine the price. The resale platform will then relist the garments for between $30 and $100 for shoppers to purchase.
For too well-worn jeans to be resold, Levi’s says it will offer $5 and recycle those with its Sweden-based sustainable partner Renewcell, US media reported.
The brand plans to sign several celebrities, including Hailey Beiber, Jaden Smith, Maeve Reiley, Amber Valletta and Carolyn Murphy.
According to Jennifer Sey, chief marketing officer of the brand, repairing and repurposing clothes requires minimal additional energy and, importantly, no water or dyes to make more jeans.
She says buying Levi’s jeans through Secondhand will not only help save around 80 per cent of carbon dioxide emissions, but also 700 gram waste when compared to purchasing a a new pair of jeans from Levi’s.
