On February 8, 2017, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) issued its Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains in the Garment and Footwear Sector.


The Guidance promotes a framework of actions that enterprises in this sector can use to address and reduce the negative human rights impacts of their business activities.

Garment exports to US, Japan touch $15 billion

HA NOI - The US and Japan imported garments and textile products worth US$15 billion from Viet Nam in 2016, the Viet Nam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas) has said.


This accounted for 53.5 per cent of the garment and textile sector’s export turnover of $28.3 billion last year.


To meet its revenue target of $30 billion from exports in 2017, the sector will increase shipments to the US and Japan and maintain an export growth of 6 per cent in the two markets, Vitas said.

Vietnam’s garment industry looks to $30 billion exports

VIETNAM’S garment industry is aiming for exports of $30 billion this year. The target was announced by Le Tien Truong, the general director of Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex).


Truong said the development of the textile and garment market at home and abroad would continue improving due to growth in the US economy, which would spur consumption. This favourable background would support the domestic textile and garment industry in reaching its export target this year.

Call for policy support to boost garment accessories sector

Garment accessories manufacturers sought policy support from the government to promote the sector by creating more employments and removing poverty. Bangladesh Garments Accessories and Packaging Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGAPMEA) President Abdul Kader Khan addressed a press conference in Dhaka yesterday.


The conference was organised to announce Garmentech Bangladesh 2017 and Gapexo 2017 and Yarn and Fabric Sourcing Fair 2017 to be held in the International Convention City Bashundhara from January 18.

Garment factory with investment of Rs100mn coming up at Sammanthurai

Under the Sri Lankan, East Development program the construction work of Garment factory at Sammanthurai is nearing completion. This garment factory is the second one in the Eastern Province open after forming the good governance.

With the opening of this garment factory, there is a possibility of getting employment for a good number of youngsters from Ampara district, sources said.

This garment factory is constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.100 million jointly sponsored by Eastern Provincial Council and Hameedia real men wear real clothes.
